Tampa Weekend Film School

USF students participated in the Tampa Weekend Film School where an old warehouse was transformed into a movie studio, students met professionals and movie magic was made.

Students were shown equipment, techniques, and given a script. Then, they had 60 minutes to film their sequence.

Administration considers adding gates, more cameras to campus

The University of South Florida administration is rewriting their safety plans, looking into consolidating safety departments to encourage communication and soliciting bids for installing emergency sirens and lights.

Installing gates at targeted entrances to control access to campus is another measure on the table.

Senate votes for own incentives

With only a third of senators showing up for their student senate meeting Tuesday night, the case was made for measures to attract and retain students to conduct the university business.

After a lengthy debate, a statute was voted on and passed by a narrow margin to authorize an incentive for student senators to participate actively in the role they were elected. It authorized them to be paid.

N.I.T.E. tells students to Take Back the Night

The student organization N.I.T.E. held the second annual Take Back the Night rally, where students were encouraged to take a stand against rape and domestic violence.

Students heard from speakers from USF athletics, USF advocacy program, The Spring of Tampa Bay and University Police. During the Speak-Out, a special speaker told of her personal experience with abuse and encouraged other students to tell their own stories for awareness and healing.

N.I.T.E. Walk Engages Students in Own Safety

On Monday, Student Senate Pro Tempore Nicole Rendazzo coordinated the N.I.T.E. Walk between SG and the student group known as N.I.T.E.: Necessary Improvements to Transform our Environment. Once a semester for the past two years, students meet, eat pizza and walk the entire campus to identify safety concerns.

Ybor Film Fest of the Moving Image brings meaningful cinema to Tampa

The sixth annual Ybor Film Festival of the Moving Image was held last weekend, but unlike most festivals that tout a larger audience than last year and hint at Hollywood ties, the small festival held at Hillsborough Community College is proud not of clout, but its mission of bringing important cinema to Ybor.
